Type 1 (SAE J1772) – The Type 1 charging connector is one of the most common options you will see in North America and Japan. It has a 5-pin design and can charge a vehicle at 16 or 32 amps depending on the limitations of the charging station. The popularity of Type 1 chargers is because they are compatible with a wide range of makes and models. Remember that Type 1 charging is only suitable for slow or overnight charging.
Type 2 (IEC 62196) – Type 2 chargers are more commonly found in Europe, and this type of charger has a 7-pin design that can accommodate charging speeds of up to 32 amps. Once again, the power output varies due to the capabilities of the charger. Many European EV manufacturers like BMW, Audi, and Mercedes-Benz utilize Type 2 connectors. Type 2 chargers may not be as common in North America, but they usually offer a more rapid charging experience.
CCS (Combined Charging System) – This option integrates Type 1 and Type 2 charging connectors so you have access to DC fast charging when you are out and about in Marlton and Cherry Hill. Two additional DC pins to allow for high-power charging. CCS connectors with a charging capacity of 80A to 200A give you access to both AC and DC charging.
